These are photos from our inside cabin #400 on Deck 6 on the Veendam in November 2019. Our friends were in oceanview cabin #623 on Deck 5 and although I don’t have photos of their cabin, I was able to make some comparisons between our cabin and theirs. (I’m not sure who designed the cabin numbering system on this ship, but it did not make sense!)
Our cabin compared to OV #623…
Had one less closet and one less bank of 3 drawers at the desk
Had a much smaller desk area
The TV was on a low shelf making the end of our desk unusable, the TV in #623 was elevated
Did not have an end table next to the couch
Had a small shower with a curtain vs. a bathtub/shower combo
Had a much longer vanity around the bathroom sinkWhat we liked about #400
The location. The main dining room was one level directly above our cabin. Easy to walk up the one flight of stairs for dinner. Also the nearby elevator went straight up to the lido buffet.
Very convenient to go outside on the walking deck (and the reason I was willing to sail in an inside cabin). The majority of the lounge chairs were reserved for the passengers in the lanai cabins but we never had a problem finding a non-reserved chair. (Although most of these were behind the solid hull and only provided a view of the sky when sitting down.) There were a few non-reserved lounge chairs near mid-ship that did have a view through the railing.
Although I missed having a window, we used the recessed area behind the curtains to store our snorkel equipment, backpacks, etc.
The temperature of the cabin. I like to have a cool room for sleeping and I got it so cold my husband had to ask for an extra blanket!
The cabin was quiet. What we didn’t like about #400
A longer walk to the forward gangplank on port days
To get to the public areas on deck 7 required going all the way forward and then going up since the aft part of deck 7 by the dining rooms is a dead end.
And probably the most obvious…I missed having natural light.
